Battle Plan Analysis and Creation
During the Revolutionary War, General Washington and his commanding officers had to plan offensive and defensive battle plans. The critical thinking behind planning these took lots of planning and thinking. We practiced this by becoming citizens of two make-believe countries "Gagoola" and "Tasmania". Students worked in pairs to collaborate by using their data information, prior knowledge about offensive and defensive fighting, and their own ideas to create a battle plan.
We then worked with the same partner to research a Revolutionary War battle, analyzing the battle plans that were used, recreating their battle plan, and creating charts and pie graphs of the casualty/wounded/captured data.
